All credit to the people over at ICT-Freak. I have modified a few bits that hopefully some people will find useful.
- Added in a section at the end to reboot all guests in the specified folder after the VM hardware upgrade. This should mean that you will not need to log into each guest and then restart after the plug and play hardware has been detected.
- Added another ‘Function’ called ‘CreateAfterListReboot’ to check for IP changes after the reboot (after the HW upgrade)

Cloned virtual machine fails with “Number of virtual devices exceeds the maximum for a given controller”.
This can happen if your template is connected to a ‘bad’ network. Convert the template back to a machine and change the network connections to a valid network then convert back to a template and try again. Hopefully it should work now!
We did have one sales pitch at the London VMUG by Pano Logic. They make a ‘Zero Client’ instead of the more common thin clients for VMware Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). It looks quite cool and very robust as it has no moving parts at all; not even any RAM or CPU. The trick is that it stretches the PCI bus across the LAN and fools the Zero client into thinking that the virtual machine hardware hosted at the other end of the LAN is it’s own. Cool stuff!
I can’t take any credit for this but constantly finding myself search for this information:
